About Carina

Why contemporary music?

The first piece Carina ever commissioned began with microtones. In the first line of music alone, she was pushed far beyond anything her formal training prepared her for. Thus began her quest to add microtones and other new techniques she encountered to her skill set. While her teachers supported her endeavors, they too had no formal training – no etudes, scale systems, or progressive studies – guiding them in these techniques.

Awoken by this lack of resources, Carina entered into and won Cleveland Institute of Music’s entrepreneurial contest “Imperfect Pitch” in 2023. She presented on the necessity of creating relevant, approachable, and accessible contemporary violin technique books. This project’s journey is continuing through her doctoral work at Stony Brook University.
